TIRANA – An unchecked spread of the coronavirus is affecting massively citizens with 153 new cases confirmed while 4 infected persons were announced dead by the Health Ministry in Albania on Sunday.
In the daily medical bulletin Dr. Marjeta Dervishi from the Institute of Public Health stated that 847 tests for suspects affected by COVID-19 have been done during the last 24 hours, including tests performed in non-public laboratories, while 153 people have been confirmed positive with COVID-19.
In the meantime, as she said, 130 citizens have ‘won the battle’ with the dangerous virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 6,106 since the outbreak of the epidemic.
The highest cases were registered in Tirana with 61 infections as the Capital continued to be the hotspot of the deadly disease.
Some 193 patients are being cured in the hospitals of Infectious Diseases and “Shefqet Ndroqi”, who were confirmed positive with COVID-19. Meanwhile 13 patients are in intensive therapy of which 4 are intubated. Specialized services are also being received by 12 citizens who have been positive with COVID-19 and are currently negative, but suffer from the consequences of the virus.
Against this non- stop spread of the infection the Health Ministry does not hide the fear of an escalation of the epidemic when the schools will open on September 14.
“The return of students to schools and full-time employees increases the risk of spreading the infection,” said Dr. Beqiri. “Therefore, we appeal to citizens and businesses to be more careful about respecting the rules of hygiene, mandatory wearing of the mask indoors and respect physical distance,” she said.
