TIRANA – COVID-19 has become more aggressive in Albania as the virus has spread across the country with an official announced number of 155 infected people and two fatalities on Tuesday.
Such a high number of discovered sick persons, the highest ever since the outbreak of the pandemic, comes as a result of the highest ever test- 932 during the last 24 hours. Such figures were announced by the Health Ministry in its daily medical bulletin.
The announcement reiterates the same ritual of advice to citizens to abide by protocols which no one knows how much are respected.
Having followed the pandemic since its outbreak in Albania the outstanding professor Dr. Kita Sallabanda, who is part of the medical teams that have treated patients with coronavirus in Madrid, at the height of the pandemic expressed his worry on the high mortality of patients with COVID-19 in Albanian hospitals.
In an interview on TV Klan on Tuesday, the neurosurgeon compares the results of treatment in Spain with those of Albania and says that deaths are much higher in Albanian hospitals.
“In Albania there are 5.6 lives lost, while in Spain there may be 10. As in Albania the daily average of the infected people is around 120, in Spain there are 1,200 infected persons. The ratio between infected and lost lives in Spain and Albania is very different. For me, the situation in Albania is atypical. There are two big problems, trackers and why so many people lose their lives in Albania. People who are placed in reani-matology are intubated,” he said.
In a comment on the vaccine that is supposed to protect people from the coronavirus, Dr. Sallabanda says it will be ready by the end of this year or early 2021. “But the scientists are divided into two camps: will we use the vaccine or will it join other vaccines as the virus goes away on its own?” /argumentum.al
