TIRANA – “The latest opinions of the Venice Commission on the Constitutional Court and on the law on media censorship have proved that the 15 conditions of EU integration are not for Albania, but for Edi Rama,” has said Edmond Spaho, a senior official of the opposition Democratic Party (DP).
In a press statement on Saturday Spaho said Albania has lagged far behind its European integration and in creating conditions for citizens to enjoy the same rights as European citizens because of Rama’s performance as government head.
“Even yesterday, the decision of the European Parliament on 15 conditions before the start of negotiations proved that Albanians only waste precious time having Edi Rama as PM,” he said, adding that when he took power there were only 3 conditions.
Further on DP’s official said that the longer Albania remains without the Constitutional Court, the longer with judges under pressure, the more Rama benefits from illegal decisions, the more Albanians remain hostages in the path toward EU.
With its decision, the Venice Commission proved Edi Rama’s intention to seize any body of the justice system, robbing the President of his constitutional right to appoint members to the Constitutional Court.
He praised President Ilir Meta for standing up in defense of the Constitution. “He has not succumbed to the criminal pressure of the regime to capture the Constitutional Court.”
In addition he said that the anti-democratic attempt of the Prime Minister to silence the media with the law of censorship was stopped by the Venice Commission, giving Albania the chance to meet 2 of the 15 conditions for the opening of negotiations.
Spaho noted that Rama has plunged the country into a deep economic and political crisis. “Citizens’ rights are not respected, jobs are insecure because the government and the prime minister of the country are connected and serve oligarchs and criminals, who hold the future of the country hostage,” he said.
In conclusion DP’s Spaho said a parliament and a government that emerges from free and fair elections are needed to unblock the path to European integration. “They are the first and safest steps to make Albania like Europe,” he said. /argumentum.al
