The process of voting in partial local elections was officially closed on Sunday evening. From 07:00 in the morning the citizens of the municipalities of Shkodra, Dibra, Durres, Vora, Rrogozhina and Lushnja were supposed to cast their votes to elect new mayors.
According to reports to the Central Elections Commission (CEC), voters turnout by 19:00, the closing time of the voting process, was 30.30%. Some 650,000 citizens were eligible to vote. What stands out is the voter turnout in Dibra which is 43.35%, higher than in all other municipalities. After Dibra for voter turnout is ranked Vora with 40.33%, Lushnja with 35.96%, Rrogozhina with 30.92%, Shkodra with 29.11% and finally Durres with 26.27%. The invalidity of the voting was declared in three polling stations in Shkodra, northern Albania considered as the bastion of Democrats, because for over 5 hours there were no voters.
It is reported that this condition is caused due to bad weather, low temperatures and snow, making it impossible for residents to participate in the voting. However the final figure of turnout in 6 municipalities is clear evidence of the rising disbelief of Albanians in elections and political class. / Argumentum.al
