The Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) has called on the government to remove two taxes on oil and gasoline through a statement to the media by SMI deputy chairman Petrit Vasili.
“I call on Edi Rama to immediately approve the proposal of the Socialist Movement for Integration submitted to the Assembly for the abolition of two taxes on oil and gasoline: the turnover tax and the carbon tax, which increase the price of fuel,” said Vasili on Friday.
“Edi Rama should convene the Parliament even tonight as the situation is very serious and does not wait. The government has been and is responsible and cooperative in creating monopolies in the field of fuel and absolute market control, creating space for price speculation at the expense of citizens,” he said.
According to him, there are two beneficiaries from this situation with prices – the government that increases revenues and the oligarchs who own the fuel monopoly. The government needs this revenue to pay for its corrupt incinerators and concessions and to continue to rent oligarchs new pieces.
Further the number two of SMI said the rise in oil prices is affecting all sections of the population, from thousands of vehicle users to public transport prices, to rising food basket prices and dozens of other services. “This situation has forced thousands of citizens across the country to protest, as their family budgets are on the verge of collapse and the daily survival of citizens is at stake,” said Vasili. /Argumentum.al
